Erline McGriff papers, 1923-2002.

This collection consists primarily of professional papers and memorabilia of Erline McGriff. The bulk of the material represents the many publications to which Dr. McGriff contributed throughout her career, the various awards that she received, and professional correspondence and papers relating to her nursing education positions at Trenton State College (N.J.) and New York University. Highlights of the collection include memorabilia and photographs from Dr. McGriff's trips to Asia. Among the artifacts in the collection are plaques and medals that she received. The number of photographs present is small, but include an image of a young Dr. McGriff dressed as Florence Nightingale for a pageant. Finally, the collection includes items relating to Dr. McGriff's colleague and friend, noted nursing scholar Martha Rogers, including a substantial amount of correspondence written at the time of her death.

Dr. Erline Perkins McGriff was born on February 18, 1924 in Petersburg, Va., where her parents ran a grocery store. She graduated from the Lucy Webb Hayes School of Nursing at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. in 1945. She received her B.S. (1950) and M.S. (1953) degrees in Nursing Education from the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., and her Ed.D. (1967) from Teachers College, Columbia University, in New York City.
